    I don’t like the translation they used. They used “He descended to the dead” and not “He descended into hell”. When I e-mailed and asked why they said “he descended into hell” was confusing to kids. Terrible excuse! If this truly is the reason than even more the reason to us is and would be a great opportunity to teach the kids, so they have a better understanding of what we believe.

    I disagree that it is a terrible excuse. “[T]o the dead” would actually be a more accurate translation of the Greek “hades” because in modern parlance, “hell” means “eternal damnation.” In Greek, “hades” was the abode of the dead.

    Of course, this doesn’t take way our need to explain what we mean when we say “into hell,” but the need for an explanation proves the point.
