CatholicBoard is proud to present the Understanding the Scriptures Podcast. This podcast allows for you to participate in a complete Bible course, which consists of 30 consecutive eighty-minute sessions.

This Bible course took place at St. Mary Parish in Brenham, TX between August 2006 and May 2007. Each session was taught by Carson Weber, M.A. and digitally recorded for your listening pleasure, free of charge.

This podcast has been featured on the St. Paul Center website here, a Biblical apostolate founded by Dr. Scott Hahn.

What is a podcast?

The word “podcast” comes from the merging of two words: “iPod” and “broadcast.” A podcast is a downloadable radio show to which you may subscribe. It consists of episodes, and you can choose which episodes to download and listen to. A podcast automatically finds its way to your computer through the use of special software, making it possible to listen to broadcasts on your time. In order to subscribe and listen to the CatholicBoard Podcast episodes, you will need to download and install a program on your computer (for example, iTunes).

If you own an iPod (or another portable mp3 player), you may then transfer podcast episodes to your iPod by connecting it to your computer. This will enable you to listen to this pocast wherever and whenever you desire (perhaps with a cup of coffee on your back porch).

How do I subscribe to the Understanding the Scriptures Podcast?

Step 1: You will need to first download and install iTunes on your computer (download it here). There are other podcast software programs out there just to let you know, but for the sake of simplicity, we recommend using iTunes.

Step 2: Now that you have iTunes, click here to subscribe to the CatholicBoard podcast within iTunes.

What if I want to subscribe to this podcast using another software program other than iTunes?

Within your podcast software program, you will need to manually type in the podcast’s rss feed:

http://feeds.feedburner.com/utspodcast

Here is an example: In most programs, you can find where to do this by looking at your options under the main menu at the top of the program. Look for an option such as “Add a Feed…” , then you will see a box where it asks for the “URL“. In that box, enter the podcast rss feed shown above.

That’s all you need to do… Enjoy!

If you have any additional questions or need assistance, please do not hesitate to email Carson Weber at carson@catholicboard.com

I have a portable mp3 player that does not support the m4a file format. How can I convert these podcasts into mp3 format?

Within the iTunes software program, go to the main menu and look for the submenu option: “Preferences…” Once you have clicked on this option, a window will appear. Now, follow these directions:

1. Choose the tab: “Advanced”

2. Choose the tab: “Importing”

3. Next to “Import Using:” choose “MP3 Encoder”

4. Save your changes and close the window by clicking the “OK” button

5. Click on the title of the podcast episode you wish to convert from mpa to mp3

6. Choose “Advanced” then “Convert Selection to MP3″ from the main menu

7. Repeat Steps 5-6 for as many episodes as you wish to convert.

What are the chapter titles for this Bible course?

This podcast follows the chapter titles in the Understanding the Scriptures textbook. You do not need to purchase this textbook in order to participate in the study by subscribing to the podcast and listening to the sessions. However, we do recommend that you purchase a copy and read the corresponding chapters. The textbook is beautifully laid out as a wonderful resource, a real wealth of great information.
